Surprise at Angle Bay

J without M. I visited Angle Bay this morning alone, and feeling more adventurous than usual I walked the entire coastline, twice, there and back. The sea was like a millpond....no wind with weak sunshine. Count as follows:- Great Northern Diver 2, Great Crested Grebe 2, Little Egret 1, Heron 2, Shelduck 35, Wigeon 58, (no sign of Yank), Teal 8, Mallard 4, Oystercatcher 64+, Dunlin c130, Barwit 24, Curlew 120+, Redshank 58, Greenshank 1, Turnstone 32.

Bird of the day was a Red-necked Grebe in full summer plumage, preening close off Sawdern Point. Wow!

Apart from 16 Com Gulls and the same number of Black-headed there were few gulls about.

Also of note - 16 Fieldfare looking very dapper in sunshine feeding on Kilpaison Burrows.
