A day out with Paul G, joined by Wendy J & Dyfed J at Monk Haven this morning.
Monk Haven: pretty brief views of the tristis Chiffchaff by the pond mid morning, and later a very grey and white bird with an obvious wingbar (presumed abietinus) was also there. At the sewage works another good candidate for a tristis (the ringed bird from last Sunday) along with 2 presumed abientinus! Also here a Firecrest calling and the 'white-capped' Wren, 2 Woodcock, 1 Kingfisher, 6 Teal.
Martin's Haven: a female Blackcap on the wall above Rath Cottage, which then flew s/e across the stubble field!
Marloes Mere: a flock of 17 Barnacle Geese came off the Mere, flew towards Skomer but then doubled back, circled the Mere again before heading off in the direction of Skokholm (to roost?) around 3pm. Part of the feral Cardigan Island / Teifi flock, or genuine migrants? Anyone know the whereabouts of the Teifi birds and whether 17 are missing? A lovely sight whatever, and brought back memories of the wintering flock that used the Mere and Skomer in the 1980s. Interestingly a flock of 17 in Cornwall 2 days ago. Also here a ringtail Hen Harrier, 5 Tufted Duck, 30+ Wigeon, 50+ Teal.
Gann/Dale Roads: 2 Greenshank, 2 Knot, 6 Bar-tailed Godwit, 8 Grey Plover, 17 Ringed Plover, 18 Turnstone, 19 Dunlin, c.20 Redshank, several Snipe, 2 Great Northern Divers, 13 Brent Geese (1 dark-bellied), 10 Goldeneye, 6 Little Grebe, 1 Kingfisher, 3 Little Egret, a modest gull roost mostly BHG/Common (surprisingly no Meds).
Siberian Chiffchaff(s?), Barnacle Geese
