Info Post
Dave's note about the Swallow passage on Skomer yesterday is interesting as Weds/Thurs I went on a Sea Trust Cetacean Survey over to Rosslare with Adrian and Cliff. Thursday morning in Rosslare the Swallows were really streaming by heading west and the passage continued for some way back across the Irish Sea. Halfway across we then saw fewer Swallows and they were heading east as were quite a few Sand Martins which were efforlessly overtaking the Ferry which cruises along at 18 Knots or so.
A few Seabirds seen on the trip including 3 Arctic Skuas, 1 Roseate and loads of Commic Terns at Rosslare. Fantastic numbers of Rissos Dolphins was the real highlight - 45 on the way out and 3 on the way back when conditions were rough - see the Whales in Wales Blog for further details.
