This morning dawned clear and bright before the sun rose above the Preseli's, the view from my bedroom window. It soon became obvious as the light levels grew outside and in my head, that there was a lot of bird movement going on.
Between 0715 and 01730, c 750 Redwings passed by and around 300 Fieldfares. Odd flocks of Woodpidgeon added to the scenario.
Wonderful high level smudges (that were probably golden plover), formed Vee formations, disintegrated into black headed comets, before reforming back to altered Vee-s again.
All several miles away and too high to be sure.
Outside walking the dogs, the crisp cold air rang with the rich "chacks" of Fieldfares searching for what few haws and hips the council flail mower had spared along the lane, Redwings wailed their sorrowful "si-eeps".
A bitter sweet start to what will be for many of us, a bitter sweet day as we mourn the passing and celebrate the life of one who's friendly smile was a blessing.
