Karen and I were discussing the sad fact of the re-emergence of this horrible disease amongst the fledglings of this season in my garden.
There was I, thinking I`d managed to control it, and wallop! It`s back! Despite regular cleaning and such I`m just going to have to stop feeding. The core population of greenfinches in Felindre , seemed to have recovered, and although the numbers dropped considerably, ie. 3-4 pairs from 20 or so , I was hopeful.
This weather seems to have exacerbated the effects as not only have greenfinches been hit hard , but the chaffinches too, and tonight I`ve seen an affected great tit. Next it will be the sparrows and siskins, so that`s it----I`m going to stop.
While out in the field , there has been a continual presence of greenfinches , so they are still around and, out of gardens, probably unaffected by Trichomoniasis
