Paul & I had excellent views of the Iceland & Glaucous Gulls around midday today, by the silage dump to the N/E of the Airfield at Poyston (SM967196). On site, we were happy that the Iceland was a 2nd-year, but having studied the close-up picture more carefully at home we now feel it is a 1st-year, as the eye in particular isn't pale enough for a 2nd-year at this time of year. The Glaucous is really a small bird - as one of the pics below demonstrates.
