I spent a few hours at Strumble this week whilst holidaying in the area and it was nice to see some of you 'regulars' again. Here follows a list of birds I saw when I was on my own there.
4/10/12 (07.20hrs-13.00hrs)
Common Scoter - males - 67 females - 8, 'Bonxies' - 4, Arctic Tern - 1, Common Tern - 17, Sandwich Tern- 13, Pomarine Skua - 1, Diver species - 1 (I thought a Black-throated but cant be sure),
Brent Geese 8 (4 dark bellied together then 2 pale bellied @ 08.52 closely followed by another 2 pale bellied @ 09.02).
A passage of 'hundreds' of auks.
Female Kestrel hunting (hovering) near Newport Golf Clubhouse in the afternoon.
Strumble 5/10/12 (07.15hrs-11.00hrs)
Common Scoter - males- 75- females - 12, Arctic Skua - 2 (light phase), Arctic Tern - 2, 'Comic' Tern 2, Red-throated Diver 1, Teal - 1 (female flying with a flock of Scoter), Female Kestrel hunting (hovering) near the car park opposite Strumble lighthouse.
Plumstone Mountain - 4 Common Snipe flushed out by horses!
