Out for a bit of gull fest this afternoon with Paul G, started well with 2 lovely adult Mediterranean Gulls at Gelliswick. At the top of the hill out of Gelliswick there were another 4 on the rugby pitch, 2 of which had white darvic rings, sadly couldn't read either of them as the grass was just a tad too long.
Very few gulls in Milford Docks, a Little Egret & 2 Redshank the highlights at Castle Pill, and 3 Redshank the best at Llandstadwell (I remember the days when this was a great spot for gulls). On to Haverfordwest and a check of a berry-laden Hawthorn in Prendergast didn't produce the hoped for Waxwing - surely won't be long before we do, given the invasion into the UK.
Some great gulling around Withybush Airfield, the vast majority of the 1,000+ gulls being first calendar year (1CY) Herring Gulls. On our way to Llys-y-fran a nice Red Kite north of Crundale. At the reservoir an sizeable roost developed, Black-headed Gulls probably in excess of 1,000, and 40+ Common Gulls (mostly 1CY) were notable, highlights were 3 adult Mediterranean Gulls and 2 Greylag Geese in with the 328 Canada Geese. It was worth the many soakings!
