Info Post
A loan male green woodpecker is being seen fairly regularly now, feeding on ants in the open but so far no obvious female or young - looks a bit ominous!

As if to get in the act, surprisingly (to me anyway) I found a great-spotted woodpecker (adult male) half way down a cliff on the Stackpole coast the other day. It flew up on to the warren and proceeded to hack into an ant-hill (not far from a feeding green woodpecker) in true green woodpecker fashion. Is this a one off, or a sign of a bird adapting and fully exploiting all available resources? Seems odd that they are doing so well yet yaffles aren't.

Today a very smart hobby spent quite a bit of time this morning feeding over the warren, mainly at Barafundle end. I was helping with a dune invertebrate survey - nice to know that it is possible to get out of the office for a change and see something of interest.

Huge numbers of migrant Rush Veneer moths around now - must be thousands! Plenty of painted ladies emerging too - quite a lot of caterpillars have been seen here - mainly on marsh thistles.
