The north-westerlies of the last 36 hours or so have been good for sea watching from Wooltack. A few days ago we had a wonderful variety of birds in a feeding frenzy about 500 metres offshore in the early evening. As well as the usual Gannets, Kittiwakes, gulls and auks, around 200 Manx Shearwaters joined in, diving in after fish as well.
Yesterday the strong wind first thing in the morning pushed Manxies in within 100m of the Point. Further out, we got excellent views of a lone Storm Petrel towards the parked oil tankers.
The porpoises are also back after an absence of at least 2 months, with a maximum of at least a dozen last night in the tidal race. All adults, as far as we could see.
The Choughs on the South side of the Deer Park have fledged 3 chicks. There is a pair, apparently without chicks, by Wooltack, and another pair nearby with 4 young.
On Marloes Mere, 2 Dunlin in full summer plumage, good numbers of House Martins, and smaller numbers of Swifts.
