Info from Sash Tusa for yesterday -
A repeat trip up to the Presellis highlighted the degree to which the sustained cold weather has driven the vast
majority of smaller birds off the hill tops and into the wooded valleys. A couple of hours walking between Foel Drygarn
and Carn Menyn (tetrad SN13L) produced a single Meadow Pipit and one Snipe. A dozen Carrion Crows, two Red
Kites and a displaying couple of Ravens made up the total of birds on the high ground.
The large wood north of Glas-rhyd (SN1532) was utterly quiet despite the wonderfully calm and warm afternoon, but
walking along the road between Mynaclog-ddu and Crymych produced good numbers of Chaffinches and tits,
especially around the farms and houses that have been feeding birds throughout the winter.
Highlight was a small field right by the road that was full of a mixture of Fieldfares and Golden Plover
(a couple of dozen each).
