Hi Rosemary, an interesting report but to me "hanging around with Sparrows" doesn't sound right for a Bee-eater - but then this may not be quite what it was doing. They are birds of open countrym but I could picture one perched on a garden fence if it was open. It might be worth you visiting her garden to see if you could picture a Bee-eater in that location and behaving how she describes it behaving? A Black-headed Bunting would sound more likely if it was hanging around with sparrows perhaps.
