Info Post
The 3 Glossy Ibis at Marloes Mere this evening (6pm) in the usual spot best viewed from the track beyond the Youth Hostel. 2 Chiffs & a Goldcrest from the hide, a drake Tufted Duck and a pair of Gadwall the duck highlights. Surprise no.1 was a Short-eared Owl close to the car park at 6.15pm, quartering the hedgerows to the south, at one point flew straight towards me to within 10m or so, without a doubt the best views I have ever had of this species. Down to the Gann at dusk, saw the 8 Brents, a small gull roost contained an unusual Common Gull / Black-headed Gull ratio (86/12), and on the lagoon 3 Black-tailed Godwits were unusual, along with a Greenshank, 5 Redshank and just 3 Goldeneye (1 drake). Surprise no.2 was a Kestrel hovering over the Pickleridge next to the lagoon - I cannot recall the last time I saw this species at the Gann.
