Following the events of last Tuesday (see below) we would like to relate "the facts" surrounding the discovery of the "two specials" found late in the evening.
Our initial instinct regarding access was there would be a problem. Suffice to say, the area is private. However, at sunrise on Wednesday we searched the fields for both birds and did not relocate them, and further searches later that day and the following morning produced the same result.
The discovery of such scarce species came as no surprise: we refer to the field where they were found as "Dick's Field" following the discovery here of Richard's Pipits by Paul G three years ago and by us last year. This week 5 Ringed Plovers fed here. A flock of 11 White Wags likewise, not to mention its attraction to Wheatears. This headland attracts migrants!
So, with all these events in mind, we approached the owner of Pencarnan Caravan Park, Alan Richardson. He is fully acquainted with the tribal instinct and passion of Birders, that 300 hundred members of their clan could descend upon his land......and he welcomes them......so long as he is informed of the situation and has control of entry.
