I am guessing that most will have seen this earlier today? Anyway, an update.
The bird was still at Sandy Haven this afternoon, I stopped at the pull in to see what was at the upper end of the pill and within 5 minutes I saw the bird flying past on the far side heading towards the sea, it dissapeared round the corner, so I drove up to Sandy Haven and having crossed the stone bridge (well, concrete) walked upstream hoping to find it again, no joy. But on the way back......There it was, sitting in classic style on the branches of an enormous old Oak tree that had fallen into the mud. I got to within 60 yards and it sat quite still and I left it undisturbed.
Great find, thanks Dave!!
