Info Post
St. Margaret's, off Caldey;-
The island visited today with the main objective the annual ringing of the young Cormorants.(Wales largest colony).
A successful visit with c180 juv. Cormorants ringed. All the island was not reached due to some heavy showers!
Great Black-backed Gulls, probably not a good year, of c18 nests looked at only 9 sizeable young, the rest, eggs or v. small young, which may not reach fledging this late.
Guillemots,(from sea) low numbers on ledges today, may indicate a poor year, needs consolidating with other counts this year.
Steve S. also thinks that Kittwake may be the most numerous nesting gull on the island this year.!
From last weeks visit probably at least 2 pr.'s Puffin nesting.
