Info Post
A big thank you to Bob Haycock for leading a disappointingly-attended but very rewarding Bird Group walk around Glynaeron Woods yesterday morning. The weather was against us, certainly at first, and meant that the sought-after Wood Warblers did not sing and so were missed. However we saw a very wide variety of other birds (my tally was 30 species; Bob & Annie’s records are undoubtedly more thorough), with my highlights being 2 Cuckoos, a Crossbill, Tree Pipits, Spotted Flycatchers, Redstarts and, around half a mile away, a very smart male Yellowhammer singing by the side of the road. The walk was made, for me, by Bob’s fantastic ear for distant singing and calls, and enabled us to find far more species that I would have achieved on my own.
