At least one Lapland Bunting present with the Skylarks in the stubble behind the car park at Freshwater West, with up to nine Choughs also feeding in this field over the past few days.
The imm Crane was also present in its usual field - viewable from Corseside Nursery. I was chatting with the farmer yesterday, and it seems that the rough vegetation that the Crane favours (the browner square patch to the left of the stubble field as you look from Corseside Nursery) is an area of unharvested barley. At spring staging posts for Cranes in Scandinavia, farmers are subsidised to leave fields of unharvested cereals, though individual birds rarely get a patch like this to themselves....
