Evidence from the BTO's Migration Atlas suggests a proportion of UK Stonechats winter as far south as Iberia and North Africa. The March influx into Pembrokeshire noted over the years may indicate the return of such birds.
Also some Stonechats winter outside their usual habitat within the county. The mixed regime of the species being sedentary, partially and fully migrational must have survival value.
Hope Paddy and his fellow ringers can focus on this and other breeding species, recoveries would be very educational.
