Elfyn’s entry of 14 Sep awarding me the status of “Strumble legend “ rather took me by surprise. There are few who are entitled to such an accolade as most of us who strumble these day are, as John of Salisbury had it “... like dwarfs sitting on the shoulders of giants...” As to lending my seat and scope to a young lady while I went to the car for extra layers, I’m afraid the motive was not entirely altruistic: times are now past when the squire would have his bed warmed by a pretty serving maid, but one can still have one’s seat kept warm at Strumble if one plays one’s cards right.
