A Lesser Spotted Woodpecker was drumming in the grounds of Picton Castle today. Also a pair of Greylags on a pond there and several Spotted Flycatchers newly arrived.
A dawn visit to Marloes yesterday produced 5 Tufted Duck, the drake Garganey, 7 Shoveler and 2 Gadwall with several recently hatched ducklings. Plenty of Canada Goose goslings too but no sign of the Black Duck. Hardly any migrants at Martins Haven. On the Gann were 4 Common Sands, a Grey plover, 9 Dunlin, 7 Ringed Plover, a Curlew and 4 Whimbrel but most of the waders were disturbed by 8.30 with many apparently leaving. As Dave says it really would be great to have a wetland bird reserve in Pembs.
