Info Post
The media has been carrying reports of the RSPCA rescueing Manx Shearwaters from Newgale and then sending them to Somerset. Whilst I am sure this is being done with the best of intentions I have discussed this with Graham Rees, and it does not seem to be the best option.
In the past I  have released grounded/lost Manxies from the Stena Europe, out in the middle of the Irish Sea close to feeding flocks of manxies. They are then safe from predators, able to rehydrate through drinking, and importantly can join the larger flocks that are currently feeding up prior to migrating. Rather than send birds to Somerset today we could be releasing them out to sea, where they need to be.I could arrange for the RSPCA to get the birds out to sea on the Stena Europe where they neeed to be. I will be trying to contact the RSPCA but if anyone has a number that will get me through to them directly/quickly please contact me on 01348 875639 allthingsgood,, cliff
