Spent afternoon looking in vain for the shrike up here. Looked in all usual places. Despite changeable weather quite a few people about. Two kestrels hunting on slope above Pantmaenog House - saw female carrying small vole, and later hunting over the area where the shrike was at the weekend. Couple of parties of Fieldfare (25 and 45) over.
Timings added later, might be of interest re: 2 bird theory:
Pantmaenog:
1.00-1.25pm - thoroughly scanned Pantmaenog Farm area - taking high route (kestrel here)
2.00-2.15pm - same area on return - from lower path/bridleway (children on bikes)
Ty Rhyg:
Arrived at gate approx 3.00pm and scanned area down eachside of track - no sign of shrike, walked bottom track to far edge. Quick scan of the felled area and back.
Approx. 3.45pm Shrike appeared in far righthand corner, when first spotted I was at top of 'path' down to pond looking in direction of a distant Pantmaenog House/New Inn cross road, it moved steadily towards me. I went back to car to get camera. On return it was in the area of pond but unable to get pic as it was repositioning itself too frequently.
