Plenty of raptor activity at Marloes Mere today. As I walked down to the hide a ringtail Hen Harrier flew close to the path. I sat in the hide for about 2.5 hours and was rewarded in that time with excellent views (though not close enough for good photos) of a male Hen harrier and the ringtail which also returned a couple of times to do a circuit of the marsh. The male spent long periods sat in a stubble field at the back of the marsh. Both birds were flying around together briefly at one point and a Peregrine and a Buzzard both had passes at the ringtail. A Merlin was perched for some time on a hedge some distance off before flying off fast and low. A Sparrowhawk also passed over the marsh.
Plenty of Shoveller and Teal on the water and Wigeon and Lapwing on the grass on the east end of the Mere.
